As we get older, we live longer.
Upon a first glance at the above, it would appear to be a statement of the obvious, but the truth runs deeper still.
See the table below for example. At 50, the average man would be expected to live until their 80th birthday, yet at 75, they would expect the survive until they are 86. Likewise, a lady would expect to live for another 25 years at age 60, however if they reached the age of 80, they would expect another nine years of life.
